The ocean around Tutukaka is known all around the world for big game fishing with marlin and tuna the most popular catches, the Poor Knights Islands just of the coast from Tutukaka are a protected marine reserve with some of the best dive spots in the world, charter boats regually leave Tutukaka for the Islands through out the year when weather permits.

The Tutukaka Lighthouse Walk is accessed from the Matapouri Road and travelling north there is a right hand turn off onto Landowners Lane just outside of Tutukaka, this road is narrow towards the end and a five minute drive will see you at the Tutukaka Heads carpark.

From the carpark the walk is easy following a grass track to the first look out and seating where you can take in the fantastic views, out front is the beatiful Poor Knights Islands and to the right is the Tutukaka Heads and the harbour entrance.

The track desends down a long flight of steeps to the sandy beach below, and the ideal time to visit the Tutukaka Light house is one hour each side of low tide as the island is cut off at high tide you can cross the natural tidal bridge at high tide in calm conditions but you will get wet.

The Tutukaka Light House Walk is ideal for all the family the track is easy and walkable is most conditions, the walk to the light house will take around thirty minutes one way but add more time to explore the bays and coastline that this walk offers.
